Ottawa Wedding Photographers | Yousuf and Annie at Dow’s Lake

I’ve written about friends and friendship before. It’s been a very big part of my life. I’ve met some unbelievable people, even if few. And I’ve lost some in the form of social casualties. Friends, who for one reason or another decided that I wasn’t friend worthy anymore. I had let them down in some way or another. And then spent unlimited hours trying to make up for it. I won’t say I’ve wasted those hours, because even in that fruitless pursuit, there was some satisfaction.

And then there are friends who at times, you can’t stand, or they can’t stand you, but they are always there. You might not see each other every day, or breathe down each other’s necks all the time, or even like each other all the friggin time. You might even hate them sometimes because they tend to be loud and obnoxious when they shouldn’t be. But they are there. And you are there. And you are friends. And that is simply all there is to it. There is no drama. It goes kinda like this:

Friend 1: Get hit by a truck!
Friends 2: You get hit by a truck. And I’m driving!
(silence)
Friend 1: So you wanna catch a movie?
Friend 2: Yeah lemme see what’s playing.

One such friend that’s simply been there is Yousuf who I’ve known for twelve years. I’ll write about him in detail some other day. But for now, I just wanted to make that distinction. Friends who outgrow you. And friends who don’t. Yousuf is of the second type. (I have a feeling that it partially might be because he’s hit his head one too many times and it’s just stopped growing altogether).

Last year, by some miracle of God, Yousuf found Annie. We couldn’t make it to their wedding in Pakistan, but we hope these pictures from their urban shoot at Dow’s Lake, Ottawa, make up for it.

Love Grows

Love. It’s hard to contain it in a definition. What’s it’s not though, is a statement. A combination of words thrown together in empty shells of conversations. It’s organic. It grows. I don’t mean it grows in strength or intensity, but that it lives. It ages. In that growth may dwell moments of intense weakness, where a mere whisper may cause it to vanish altogether. And out of those weak moments, giant spirits of hope evolve. When you can’t fix things, but only know that in the morning, you will try again. You will simply try. And love … will continue to grow.

Ottawa Wedding Photographers | Alison & Marc’s War Museum Engagement Shoot

F had known Marc from back in the days and thought he’d be a great match for her cousin. So she decided to invite them both to her Halloween party and let lady Aphrodite do her magic. As Marc made his way down to F’s place, in another part of the town, Alison was trying on her pink panther costume. An hour later, as Marc wandered around F’s place, bored of explaining his costume to be that of “a guy who just came from a BBQ”, he spotted something interesting and pink. A couple of weeks later Marc and Alison went to the Ottawa Wine & Food show, where Alison learnt that Marc loves cowboy boots and that he knows everyone in Ottawa. The rest is history.

Marc is also the lead singer of a hard-rock band called Iconoclast.

F will be a maid of honor at Marc and Alison’s wedding this summer.

And because we share their initials, we believe we were destined to be their wedding photographers.

Wedding Photographers Toronto | Re-inventing Ourselves

As wedding photographers, one of the things we feel the need to do, is to constantly re-invent ourselves. That means constant learning; be it shooting techniques, lighting techniques, post processing, or just improving and strengthening our visual aesthetics so we can see shots before we click. And due to the nature of wedding photography, there isn’t a whole lot of practice or experimentation that can be done in-the-field so to speak. When a couple hires us, we don’t go in and “try” stuff. At the same time, we know that we need to have an ever-growing arsenal of shots and techniques in our belt to be able to pull them out and use them in tight spots.

Consequently, we are always using each other as guinea pigs to try out new stuff on our off days. A good by-product of having to do this is that we can end up with some shots of ourselves that we would otherwise never take. Interestingly enough, we both fight to be behind the lens rather than in front of.

We took the following shots in this little corner in our building gym. This is what the corner actually looks like (sorry about the noise; iPhone picture):

These following shots were taken in this same corner without any backdrops.

Toronto Wedding Photographers | Jeet and Nidhi Wedding Reception

Concluding Jeet and Nidhi’s series was their wedding reception that also took place at the Tudor Hall in Ottawa. The couple looked absolutely radiant and was all fun and laughs from their entrance right to the dance floor. We got some amazing shots. Enjoy!

Right after their entrance Jeet and Nidhi brought it to the dance floor. We love this following slow shutter capture.

The couple then took front seats in the middle of the hall while their siblings, cousins and friends did their thing.

And obviously which wedding dance performance these days is complete without a homage to the king.

Some of Jeet’s friends abroad (Australia) had sent a video containing some emotive, heartfelt, naked guy with a guitar on the beach moments.

They opted for a sit down dinner at the reception, and the food was served in these amazing little dish stands. How traditionally Indian looking.

And we’ll conclude with our favourite series from the entire wedding.

Wedding Photographer Ottawa | Jeet and Nidhi Wedding Portraits

If you have been keeping up with our blog you’d remember Jeet and Nidhi’s Engagement Shoot pictures we did way back in March 2009, followed by wedding photos of the Sikh and Hindu ceremonies. Today we are going to make a two part entry. The first part is the mini portrait session that concluded their wedding day at Dow’s Lake in Ottawa.

This was the same day as the two religious ceremonies so by the time we made it to Dow’s Lake, Jeet and Nidhi had already been up and running for about nine hours and were really tired having barely had any sleep the night before. They were still the best of sports and worked with us happily.

Oakville Wedding Photographers | Sarah and Kyle’s Wedding at Glen Abbey Golf Club

We covered Sarah and Kyle’s wedding at the Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville last summer.

Funny story from this wedding. Midway through the wedding, after their portraits, Kyle and Sarah were getting late for the reception, and we still had our stuff to collect. So the wedding co-ordinator offered to escort them to the reception hall in her own golf cart, leaving the couple’s golf cart with us to take back to the reception hall once we were done packing, which only took a couple of minutes. However, we got to the reception hall about ten minutes later than we should have. What held us up? Well, lets just say there were quite a few golfers who gave us the evil eye riding around in a golf cart that read “Just Married”. We took turns. It was fun! Yes, we’re ashamed at our behaviour. A little.
