"There is a creative fraction of a second when you are taking a picture. Your eye must see a composition or an expression that life itself offers you, and you must know with intuition when to click the camera. That is the moment the photographer is creative."
"Photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as of a precise organization of forms that gives that event its proper expression."
Cartier-Bresson
Who are you guys? Who is A, Who is M, and what in the world is AliphAurMeem?
A is for Asad. M is for Mehreen. A is 27, M is 24. We are a husband and wife team of photographers originally from Pakistan, now living in Toronto for the past decade or so. AliphAurMeem is the name of our wedding photography company. Aliph is the Urdu alphabet equivalent of 'A', and Meem is the Urdu alphabet equivalent of 'M'. 'Aur' simply means 'And'. Thus, A&M and AliphAurMeem are synonymous.
Lifestyle photography
In the recent years, documentary style or lifestyle photography has gotten quite the attention and perhaps for the right reasons. Posed shots of a family smiling looking at the lens tell way less a story than a close-up shot of a bead of sweat on the groom's forehead, the nervousness captured in a tight shot of the bride's hands, or the surprise on a child's face caught stealing a lick of the cake icing.
Pictures that tell stories
We at A & M Photography aspire to capture moments exactly like that. While we do understand the importance of those posed shots to make sure you have mementos with all the people who are important to you on a very important day, we hope to at least take some pictures that years from now will tell stories.
When did you get that?
As much as we want to be a part of your special day, we'd rather you don't notice us. It's not that we are shy, quite the contrary, but we find that we capture the best moments when those being captured are unaware of the fact.
Where are the photographers?
Likewise, we don't want to be there only for the big bang, but for the whole event. We don't walk in with the guests when everything is done and proper and leave before the cleanup. We want to capture the whole day's excitement, chaos and everything in between.
When hell freezes over!
For some reason a lot of the frontline wedding photographers believe that it is their birth right to take forever to give you your pictures. This often happens when photographers take on more assignments than they can handle and as a result the customers have to suffer and wait endlessly. At A & M Photography, we only work at one client at a time making sure that you are happy and get the pictures in time with quality.
